A.W.E.D- Indian Cuisine, Event Announcement

Hello Foodies,
I'm really pleased to announce that A.W.E.D  is going to explore Indian Cuisine this month, yes you are right I'm the host for March 2011.

A.W.E.D stands for A Worldly Epicurean's  Delight, started by DK of Chef in You.  Chef in you is a well known  popular site, she is known for her perfect delicious recipes with easy to follow instructions.  In DK's A.W.E.D was started basically to explore different cuisines around the world.  It's true that the more the cuisines which we explore, the better we understand the flavours.  Thank you DK for giving me this great opportunity to host your event.

Let me say a few words about Indian cuisine before going to the rules. Indian cuisine doesn't need introduction.  Indian curries, sweets and halwa are famous around the world.  Indian cuisine is not just limited with curries and sweets.  There is a vast cultural diversity starting from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.  If you say that the staple food of people who live in the north is wheat, for people in the south it's rice.  I wonder if any other cuisine involves so many wide range of spices and herbs.  Some of the well known recipes from India are Tikka masala, Naan bread, Hyderabad dum briyani, Idli, Dosai, Vadai, Roti's ,  Gajar ka halwa, Gulab Jamun, Rasmalai ....... and so many.  Actually I would say that to explore Indian cuisine this one month would not be sufficient.  Although I was born and rised in India, I haven't explored the whole of Indian cuisine.  So let's explore Indian cuisine this month with A.W.E.D.  Here are the few rules which you have to follow,

Rules for the event:
1. Prepare any Vegetarian dish starting from appetizer to dessert which fits the theme.
2. Multiple entries are welcome.
3. Give a link to this event announcement page and DK's announcement page.  I would really appreciate if you can use the logo in your post.
4. Mail me the following details at ayeesha.riaz@ googlemail.com
   a. Your Name:
   b. Recipe Name and Url:
   c. Picture of your recipe reduced to 200 px( If you couldn't reduce, no problem)
5. If you do not have a blog, you can mail me your recipe with a picture to my mail id.
6. Last date for your submission March 30th( Midnight 12- European Greenwich Mean Time)

I'm eagerly waiting to see all your spicy and sweet entries.

EAT WELL LIVE WELL: Heart Friendly Recipes

I'm happy to announce this new  Eat Well Live Well event. This is not going to be every month, it might be every two months or 45 days once, it just depends upon my time constraints. I know there are lots and lots of event going on, sometimes I miss a few events. What I think is more events, more fun, more good food. This event is particularly aimed at healthy eating. Almost all the events which we have are aimed at healthy life style of food, but for this one I have decided to take some health related theme for each series. As long as we have something we always take it from granted, and once the moments we start loosing them we deeply regret for not taking care. This happens with everything like in our relationship, any thing, job, food, house, health etc....
Technology has improved so much and the disease are also keep increasing inspite of all healthy life style which we try to adapt.
When we lose our health we lose almost everything, there is nothing can be more stressful when we are unable to do our own basic needs. The key or main important thing to maintain a good health is food.... Not just food, what we eat, when we eat are the most important. If you have a very good, perfect and healthy lunch and skip your breakfast and dinner doesn't help you maintain a good health.
Along with good food you should also have proper eating habits without skipping any of your meals. No matter how busy you are, take time to sit, relax and enjoy your every meal. I know it may not be possible if you are overloaded with work, but still you can try. If you have to spend some extra money for your good food, if it's affordable for you, without having a second thought, spend the money and have good food.
Right now coming to our first series of  Eat Well Live Well, I have chosen Heart Friendly Recipes as the theme. To keep your heart healthy along with good eating habit, you should also have good exercise and stress free.
To have a good diet you should know about the food groups, some of the foods you need more and some very less.
Fruits and vegetables has to be your first third of your diet.
Starchy Food has to be next third like rice, bread, pasta etc... use wholemeal as much as possible.
Protein should be the final third like meat, eggs, fish and other dairy products
High fat and sugar should be in very less amount.

Eat atleast two portions of oily fish every week to maintain a healthy heart.
Cut down the saturated fats like butter, margarine, coconut oil etc and replace it with unsaturated fats like olive oil, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil or soya oil, doesn't mean that you can eat chicken deep fried in olive oil.
Try to grill instead of frying.
Salt is one of the major cause of heart disease, cut down your salt level as much as possible.

Prevention is always better than cure, make a few changes to your life style to maintain a health heart. So come join with me and cook heart friendly recipes to care for you and your family, and share it with this event to help others to maintain a healthy diet.

The above all information regarding heart healthy diet is from British Heart Foundation, read more from here.

Any One Can Cook : New Weekly Event

I'm happy to announce this new weekly event Any One Can Cook, actually the whole idea of this event is borrowed from my friends. When I visited my friend's place for this Eid, we had some very good food, good chat and the idea of this event. When we were chatting, one of my friend suggested why don't you start a event with very simple cooking and easy to make, and the other friend immediately said I know what to name it Any One Can Cook, since we were talking about ratatouille, the last night. Thanks to both of them who gave me this excellent idea, one of them is a blogger, I'm not going to reveal her name now. Sice I already  planned for my monthly event, I made this as a weekly event.
Right let me explain what is about the event, what do you think cooking is a skill, art, is it only for particular talented people or any one can just cook?
I have heard so many people saying I never entered kitchen before getting married, including me :-)
Whatever we do clear instructions and passion for what we do, will definitely make ourselves excel in that thing. I think cooking is no exception to that.
So we are having this event

  • For beginners
  • With less ingredients
  • With minimum amount of time spent
Your recipe doesn't have to fall under all these categories, if it falls under any one of the categories that's enough. I'll also explain about each category separately.
For beginners:
For beginners in the sense, it should easy for a person to follow, who is completely new to cooking or just learning cooking. For example you can send cakes, cookies or bread etc... but you have to give clear step by step instructions, so that a beginner can follow. You can also send some recipes which is very easy to prepare with less steps involved without any technical skills.
With less ingredients:
With less ingredients in the sense with minimum amount of ingredients available, nowadays people keep travelling and sifting. Some people they work in one place during weekdays and they meet their family only during weekends. So when we are travelling or staying some where for a short visit, we may not have all the ingredients available in home like all spices, different types of flour etc..
So you can send recipes using some basic ingredients like rice, oil, pasta, flour, few vegetables etc....
With minimum amount of time:
In this fast moving world we are always in a rush and almost everybody will say, OMG! no time, where did the time go? We rush in the morning to prepare breakfast, lunch etc.. again we rush.... for each and every meal sometimes. So you can send your recipes which involves less amount of time, not more than 1 hour, 1/2 an hour would be excellent. You can also give some tips for early preparation so that it will make your work easier on the day of cooking.
Alright, so I hope I have made it clear about the event. Remember if your recipe doesn't have to fall under all the three categories, if it meets at least one category that's fine. If your recipe falls under all the categories that's also fine.
So this going to be a weekly event, from Monday to Friday. Monday in my home page I'll have the Mr. Linky tool, where you can link your recipe, on the other days, you can see it on side bar, from where you can link your recipe.
Anyway I'll give a few rules below to make it more clear
Rules for the event:
1. Your recipe has to fall under any one of the above mentioned category i.e. for beginners, with less ingredients, with minimum amount of time.
2. You can link your recipe from Monday- Friday anytime.
3.No limit to the number of entries.
4.Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian are allowed.
5.Recipes using pork and alcohol are not allowed.
6.Give a link to this event and place the logo in your post.

Event starts coming Monday September 27th, be ready to get post your recipes, you can link anytime from Monday- Friday every week.
So common everybody lets help our family, friends, sister or even our daughters and sons to get cooking. I hope I'll get all your support as always.
Your comments and suggestions are more than welcome, if you have any doubt regarding this, feel free to contact me.

Take five or seven seeds and crush them (mix the powder with oil) and drop the resulting mixture into both nostrils, for 'Aisha has narrated to me that she heard the Prophet saying, 'This black cumin is healing for all diseases except As-Sam.'
